Abstract

Wool has many unique properties as an ideal textile fiber for high-end fashion industry. In coupled with that is the difficulties in washing woolen products. In addition, the 21st century has seen very rapid growth in the field of nanotechnology and several of them can be applied to enhance the quality of wool fabric, particularly self-cleaning. To functionalize the self-cleaning effect on worst wool surface, in this study, the commercial nano TiO2/SiO2 mixtures were finished on wool by the dipping-padding method. The functional effectiveness was analyzed by the reduction of the stain’s color intensity of commercial wine, coffee, and tea on wool when exposing to sunlight, estimating the contact angle between water drop and fabric’s surface, and evaluation the change of fabric’s surface after treatment. As a result, TiO2/SiO2 molar ratio of 70/30 yielded the best self-cleaning effectiveness for coffee and tea stains. Briefly, our study created the functional add-valued properties on wool fabrics of self-cleaning for enormous potential in the high-end fashion of wool.
