Abstract

Degumming-silk is a treatment process of partially or completely removing the sericin layer surrounding silk fibroin. Two popular degumming silk methods using Na2CO3 and Marseille soap were applied on color-silk to evaluate the effect of the treatment on the color intensity of degummed silk. The yellow-silk and pink-silk were treated in this research. In addition, pink silk is the result of new dyeing method feeding silkworm with mulberry leaves supplemented the dye named Rhodamine B. Colorimeter X-rite color i5 was applied for color analysis, scanning electron microscope (SEM) and fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) were applied for structure morphology analysis of the colored-silk. The results show the different effects between treatment with Na2CO3 and Marseille soap on colored silk. This is also the reference for choosing the appropriate treatment method applied on colored silk.
