Abstract

Grinding is a traditional machining process for finishing of material with high hardness, high strength. The method is very commonly used to attain dimensional accuracy and fine surface finishes when manufacturing parts from heat-treated steels. The paper presents a study of the influence of cutting parameters (longitudinal feed rate; latitudinal feed rate, depth of cut) on the surface roughness when grinding heat-treated steel SKD11. Based on the general full factorial design of experiments with using Minitab software, the authors have established an experimental regression model of the relation between the roughness and longitudinal feed rate, latitudinal feed rate, depth of cut. From that, we can define the level of impact of the cutting parameters to the roughness as well as predict the surface roughness based on the cutting parameters.
